Fiscal Responsibility

1. I will work tirelessly to make sure your tax dollars are spent wisely and are used for educational pursuits as much as possible. I understand how hard you work and the time you spend earning a living so I will not spend your money lightly.

Specifically, tuition costs must be contained. Therefore, I will work to control the spiraling costs by (a)privatizing non-academic services where possible and (b)limiting the growth/size of the administration. Thereby, focusing more attention to education which is the primary mission of the school.

Admission Equality

2. The University of Michigan should be an institution that seeks to maintain academic excellence and treat every applicant equally. Therefore, I fully supported the Michigan Civil Rights Initiative. It is imperative that the University maintain a commitment to treating prospective students fairly and emphasize personal achievement in its admissions process.

Open Dialogue on Campus

3. As a center for higher learning it is imperative that the University maintain an open and free dialogue on campus. This means that popular, unpopular, inoffensive, and offensive speech be allowed simultaneously. We cannot expect tomorrow's leaders to lead effectively by insulating them from unpopular speech. I would work to change the current Code of Student Conduct to promote free speech.

Maintain Academic Excellence

4. Of course, I will work to keep the University of Michigan a leader in health care, law, business, engineering, and the liberal arts.
